The distance between you and I
Is only a heartbeat away,
For you and I dwell in each other's heart -
There forever we will stay.
You know all my emotions,
Many they may be.
You know when to be gentle,
And when to chastise me.
Two gentle souls deeply connected,
Thoughts not spoken,
There is no need -
For the other knows what one is thinking
Even before they speak.
So with all the love I have
In my heart today,
I want to express to you
These feelings I want to stay
A ruddy drop of manly blood
The surging sea outweighs;
The world uncertain comes and goes,
The lover rooted stays.
I fancied he was fled,
And, after many a year,
Glowed unexhausted kindliness
Like daily sunrise there.
My careful heart was free again-
O friend, my bosom said,
Through thee alone the sky is arched,
Through thee the rose is red,
All things through thee takes nobler form
And look beyond the earth,
The mill-round of our fate appears
A sun-path in thy worth.
Me too thy nobleness has taught
To master my despair;
The fountains of my hidden life
Are through thy friendship fair.
Life without friends is just no life at all,
call it as mere existence.
It is a friend who brings color to your barren solitary life.
Man cannot live alone;
he needs a shelter to come back to, to confide to.
This role is aptly played by friends who become your confidante.
A good friend is like your shelter;
he/she is someone you can fall back on in time of difficulties.
Poets over ages have tried to capture the feelings of friendship through
their pen and in the process immortalize the relation of friendship through their words.
